OUR PROJECT

One of the objectives is to recover the history, heritage, customs and traditional knowledge, sharing them with tourists and visitors to the village in order to keep them alive. Several actions, investments and activities are included in the project to achieve this objective: the interpretation center at the school, thematic workshops, the restoration of buildings, the revitalization of agricultural fields and the forest, among others.

In parallel with this recovery of history and traditions, the project also includes the incorporation of more modern trends that can coexist harmoniously. The inclusion of innovative and experimental agricultural techniques, the implementation of wellness activities that are part of the daily lives of current generations, the proposal to host contemporary music, theater and dance groups, and the creation of co-working spaces with appropriate technologies are examples of measures that allow integration between different realities. These initiatives contribute to making a stay at Marruge Ecovillage an attraction.

Heritage Interpretation

In relation to tangible and intangible heritage, we have scheduled the launch of an interpretation plan. This plan will integrate, in its elaboration, the different visions of the stakeholders and the lines of work currently underway in the village. The final result will consist of several pieces of work, which will be applied to the implementation and/or improvement of physical structures aimed at increasing the connection of visitors and new residents to the village's heritage, thus encouraging actions for its protection.

The plan aims to support the development of innovative entrepreneurship initiatives based on creativity and local heritage resources, respecting them and creating a stronger sense of belonging among the population to their territory. In addition, it aims to create a trans-local networking ecosystem based on the stakeholder map and to support the different lines of work currently underway, directing their results towards tourism activity, transforming phenomena into experiences.

This plan will also support the preparation for tourism activities, the implementation of diverse activities for different audiences and the communication of the value of the entire village of Marruge. Through these actions, the aim is to provoke reflection among visitors, create a meaningful relationship and provide pathways to deeper meanings.

Our nature

Immerse yourself in a village of traditions. The project includes the identification and enhancement of cultural and natural heritage, the rehabilitation of buildings based on bioclimatic architecture and the development of a range of services and experiences geared towards village tourism of well-being, nature and knowledge (including business), contributing to the retention of residents and the long-term resilience of the village.

The various services that will be offered include accommodation in country houses, a coworking space, spaces dedicated to cultural activities, wellness services and sports equipment, an ecological swimming pool, an organic farm, a village/online shop, a food lab, a bike hotel®, mountain bike and hiking trails, and a wide range of workshops and training courses. With the aim of combining tradition, innovation and sustainability, the project also includes the implementation of regenerative agriculture (using the syntropic agriculture model), the implementation of a fire protection plan, the use of bioindicators with biomonitoring using green-tech technology, and the creation of a Renewable Energy Community aiming for carbon neutrality and a car-free village.

The village will also have a multipurpose biodiversity interpretation centre and a knowledge dissemination platform. You can now book your place for workshops on making traditional bread in a wood-fired oven or for your events/celebration gatherings with family or friends. Marruge Ecovillage works closely with the associative, academic and business network to encourage the emergence of entrepreneurial, resilient and innovative rural ecosystems.
